The plant, founded in 1886, was founded by a local merchant, Carl Gottfried Seidel. In 1888, the plant underwent expansion, becoming on the of the largest fruit and vegetable processing facilities in the 19th Century Germany. The Münsterberg plant was renowned for its dried vegetables, mainly potatoes. In 1898, it became one of the first plants in the world to manufacture canned food.
