The birthplace and home of Julius Schottländer – the German merchant, landowner and philanthropist of Jewish descent. Julius Schottländer was born in 1835 in Münsterberg and it was in his home town that he took his first steps as wool and grain merchant. He was also a trade counsellor and landowner, quickly gaining a considerable fortune. He moved his business to Breslau and over the following years invested in industrial ventures: mills, sugar mills, brickyards and cement mills, and also in real estate.
Julius Schottländer had profound impact on the growth of Münsterberg in the 19th Century. Despite moving away, he never forgot his home town. He provided funding for numerous initiatives in Münsterberg, among others the creation of the Town Park and the construction of the Water Castle; the hill on which the castle was erected, was later named Julius' Hill after him. At the request of the town hall and with the consent of the Town Council of 15 May 1900, Julius Schottländer was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Münsterberg in honour of his and his family's immense merits to the town.
Julius Schottländer died in Breslau in 1911. He was interred on the Jewish cemetery at Ślężna street in Breslau.
