Duchy of Münsterberg

At the first glance, the sports field of the Primary School no. 4 at the intersection of Zamkowa and Wałowa streets is plain and insignificant, but it is actually one of the most important historical sites of the Duchy of Münsterberg. It is on that site that Duke Bolko I the Strict at the end of the 13th Century erected the fortified castellan’s castle, which later became the duke's castle. It was the heart of the Duchy. Regrettably, there are not many relics of the castle's heyday. No image survives of the old castle which was pillaged by Hussites in the 15th Century and fell into utter ruin during the Thirty Years' War. In the corner of the sports field, next to the gym, you can see a section of the former castle wall.
