Duchy of Münsterberg

Wealthy towns, numerous nobility mansions and, most of all, the foundations of the Cistercian Monks of Henryków and Kamieniec attracted the most renowned European artists of the day to Münsterberg. It would be well-nigh impossible to list them all, a handful deserve at least a mention, among them: painters Michael Leopold Willmann (1630–1706), Jan Krzysztof Liszka (1650? -1712), Bernard Krause (1743–1803), Max Durschke (1875-1946?) and Alfred Gottwald (1893–1971); painter and medallic artists Eduard Kaempfer (1859–1926); painter and art conservator Joseph Langer (1865–1918); sculptor Thomas Weissfeldt (1671–1721); and drawer Friedrich Bernhard Werner (1690–1776) – the author of the famous pictures of Silesian towns.
Today, Münsterberg is the home and the subject of, among others, sculptor, painter and architect Tadeusz Teller (born in 1930), and painter Leszek Niciński (born in 1948).
