The Langers - an Artistic Marriage

Joseph Langer – painter, art conservator and collector, born in 1865 in Münsterberg. Lecturer at the Royal School of Arts and Artistic Crafts (Königliche Kunst- und Kunstgewerbeschule) in Breslau, known today as the Academy of Art and Design. Author of numerous sketches, designs, paintings and frescos. An acclaimed conservator of Baroque wall paintings (i.a in the Silesian Piast Mausoleum in Legnica, in Aula Leopoldina of the University of Breslau, and in the library of the Cistercian Monastery in Lubiąż). He died in 1918 in Breslau. His works are exhibited in the Museum of Household Appliances in the Münsterberg town hall. The Museum has a vast collection of Langer’s works and items he had collected over the years.

Marta Langer-Schlaffke – artist and teacher, born in 1872 in Krotoszyn. In 1904, she married Joseph Langer. In her works and classes she focused on lacing, embroidery, interior decoration, and the history of fabrics and clothes. She amassed a vast collection of historic apparel and also dabbed in porcelain painting. Between 1934 and 1937, she handed over her deceased husband’s collection to the Münsterberg museum, significantly contributing to the museum's growth.
