It is in Ząbkowice Śląskie (originally known in German as Frankenstein), instead of the former capital of Münsterberg, that the ruins of the castle of the Dukes of Münsterberg is located. It was one of the first Renaissance buildings in Silesia, remodelled in the 16th Century from an old Medieval stronghold by Duke Charles I of Münsterberg. Ząbkowice then became the most important town of the Duchy, despite the fact that Münsterberg remained the Duchy's nominal capital. In the 18th Century, the castle, which had been partially devastated by years of war and sieges, was abandoned and remains a ruin to this day. To enter the castle, you will need to make an appointment in the Józef Glabiszewski Chamber of Regional Memorabilia.
